Liver formula (28 vegetarian capsules)-Here’s the thing; we couldn’t see a list of CVS’s ingredients for this specific formula.  The site did state the formula contains no salt, sugar, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, dairy products, artificial coloring or flavoring, preservatives or ingredients of animal origin.  Nice to know.  But what’s in it?  Other ingredients outside the formula, but listed as a companion to it, are:

  • Cellulose-often referred to as dietary fiber or ‘roughage.’ Acts as a bulking agent for feces.
  • Magnesium Stearate-often used as diluents in the manufacture of medical tablets, capsules and powders
  • Silicone Dioxide adds powder flow in the formation of tablets

Aren’t we grateful those ingredients are listed?  Now if we just knew what was in the actual formula!

PLEASE NOTE: If a company does not list the ingredients in a formula, we smell a rat. Often there is something they are trying to hide…such as the quantity of ingredients within the formula are too inadequate to be effective.

Fiber Formula (112 vegetarian capsules).  Okay, here we get a list of what’s in their proprietary blend (yippee!):

  • Psyllium (Plantago Ovata)Husk is claimed to be effective in reducing blood cholesterol and blood glucose response.
  • Oat (Avena Sativa) Bran is the outer casing of the oat whose consumption is believed to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, and possibly reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Guar Gum(Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba) Seed Extract is a water-soluble paste made from the seeds of the guar plant and used as a thickener and stabilizer in foods and pharmaceuticals.
  • Pectin (from citrus fruit) goes through the small intestine more or less intact, and as such is a soluble dietary fiber.  Consumption has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels, and reduce absorption of cholesterol from bile or food.
  • Marshmallow (Althaea Officinalis) Root Extract 3.5:1.used for ailments of the urinary system, as a diuretic and digestive aid, treating constipation and irritable bowel syndrome.
  • And those ‘other’ ingredients (see above.)

Gentle Intestinal Formula (35 vegetarian tablets.)  This formula has not one, but two, proprietary blends within this formula and it lists all the ingredients! (Yay!)

Mucilage Blend:

  • Marshmallow (Althaea Officinalis) Root Extract 3.5:1. used for ailments of the urinary system, as a diuretic and digestive aid, treating constipation and irritable bowel syndrome.
